So the second part of the Fermented Foods, Kombucha and for now the concluding part, although I will come back to this at a later date. The content is based on factual research and also my own personal experience as I take both every day and have benefitted enormously. It just so happens that I make both and can supply these to you just as I have with other patients who are also seeing huge benefits.
So here we go:
Kombucha
Kombucha is an amazing drink, I have watched the popularity of it grow and I've also witnessed the major soft drink and energy beverage companies start to lose their credibility and hit a 30-year low in sales as people wake up to how much harm drinking large amounts of sugar, caffeine and additives can cause.
I want nothing more than for you to gain confidence in your own ability to discern what is best for you, you'll feel it inside and something will resonate within you. Trust your gut, trust your intuition, learn from the independent research and your life experience will show you what's best.
I'm just going to share with you what has worked for me and share my experiences of the last wee while of making and drinking these cultured foods. I've been on a journey of discovery and not a week goes by where I don't learn something new about microbes and the Gut Biome, and all they do for us. Kombucha is a wonderful replacement for any drink and here are a few reasons I drink it every day.
Reasons To Drink Kombucha:
A Powerful Probiotic Yeast In Kombucha:
A special probiotic yeast called Saccharomyces Boulardii (SB) is abundant when you make Kombucha. SB is one of the most researched probiotics and has been used worldwide to support gastrointestinal health and is resistant to antibiotics, heat, and stomach acids. It has been used in hospitals to help with acute diarrhoea in children and adults, offering support for Clostridium Difficile (C. diff), bowel disorders, AIDS patients, children with autism, and inflammatory bowel disease. SB is unrelated to the yeast Candida Albicans, when you have Candida proliferating, it will decrease the acidity of the gut making it susceptible to harmful bacteria and yeasts. SB exerts the opposite effect producing lactic and other acids known to inhibit potentially harmful Candida yeast species.
Diarrhoea:
Saccharomyces Boulardii (SB) is one of the probiotics they give patients in hospitals to treat acute diarrhoea, antibiotic associated diarrhoea, some parasitic forms of diarrhoea, and other gastrointestinal disorders. SB can also act as a decoy to harmful pathogens, it attracts and binds with the pathogens, keeping them from attaching to the intestinal wall and doing damage.
Joint health:
Kombucha is packed with glucosamine which helps prevent joint damage by supporting the preservation of collagen. It does this by increasing hyaluronic acid which is important for the lubrication of your joints. When joints are better able to move, the collagen isn’t worn down as much.
Allergies:
In the springtime, if you up your ferment foods intake this can help massively with seasonal allergies. Kombucha is something you can have several times a day to help with low energy and detoxification from excess pollen. Ingesting more microbes assists the immune system and helps the adrenals cope with foreign invaders such as pollen. Kombucha flavoured with Ginger seems to be the most effective during allergy season.
Hormone Help:
When you have a lot of excess hormones, be it premenstrual symptoms, perimenopause, or menopause, Kombucha is wonderful with helping to eliminate excess Oestrogen and other hormones that are out of balance. Excess hormones are eliminated through the liver and digestive tract. Kombucha assists the liver in detoxification and the probiotics in kombucha help with elimination through the digestive tract. Kombucha is a wonderful natural way to balance the bodies hormones.
Afternoon slump:
If you feel yourself getting tired around 2:30 in the afternoon, then you may have blood sugar issues or stress hormones which have become overtaxed by excess Cortisol. One of the things that can help you when you feel like this is to have 8-16 ounces of Kombucha. The B vitamins in Kombucha, along with the probiotics, give your adrenals extra help, it’s ability to help cleanse the gastrointestinal system and rid the body of wastes is so helpful to the immune system. It gives you a big boost and makes you feel great, it’s incredibly alkalizing and it helps to balance pH as it energizes the body.
Detoxing From Addictive Substances:
Drinking Kombucha can help replace the addictive quality of sugar filled drinks, coffee and tea. It is Kombucha that assists in cleansing the liver and in helping to detox all of the body and helping to reduce the craving and reliance on unhealthy foods and drinks. Addictions and cravings for unhealthy foods and drinks will become a thing of the past as you create new microbes that make you crave healthy foods.
Kidney Health:
If you suffer from joint pain, feeling tired and sluggish in the late afternoons and don’t feel like you have as much energy overall or as much as you would like, then starting to drink Kombucha can help. In that first week you will start to wee more and to start purging toxins through the kidneys and skin, a natural process as the body comes back into balance. Kombucha research has found that it can repair damage caused by environmental pollutants, such as TCE, and may be hugely beneficial to kidney health and repair.
No Need For Deodorant:
If you consistently consume about 16 ounces of Kombucha daily, then this can help reduce the need for deodorants, go check it out, it’s absolutely true. In tests people were given Kombucha and their natural body odour decreased significantly, when they stopped, the body odour come back. It seems to be something specifically in Kombucha that helped them cleanse these odour causing bacteria. Sweat is actually odourless but when it's combined with certain bacteria it can begin to smell and hence the need for deodorants. Cut out the use of deodorants and you then reduce the bodies absorption of the chemicals in deodorises, namely aluminium and aluminium salts.
Sore Throat And Coughs:
Kombucha is a wonderful way to soothe sore throats and coughs and also load the body with probiotics. It is known to clear the junk off the back of the throat and helps clear the sinuses as well. It will also support your lymphatic system as it removes the viruses and pathogens that have collected and are affecting your body.
So that’s it for now, I will come back to this later with updates, on The Gut Biome and Fermented foods. As mentioned before I can not stress how important these are and how life changing the effects can be.
